About MSTP

Director’s Welcome

Welcome!

The UW MSTP is ranked as one of the most outstanding medical scientist training programs in the country. Our goal is to offer highly academically qualified students the best possible combination of training in clinical medicine and biomedical research, with outreach to the world.

The UW is one of the nation’s largest medical schools, whether measured by research funding, breadth and depth of faculty, research laboratory space, or clinical facilities. By all professional measures, UW ranks among the top medical schools for research and patient care. UW is strong in all areas of research, yet because of its size and scope, offers unique opportunities in genome sciences, bioengineering, computational biology, and global health—rare among medical schools. We are closely affiliated with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (FHCC), one of the nation’s leading cancer centers, where many of our students choose to carry out their research. Our students can also carry out their research with mentors at other UW-affiliated Seattle institutions, including the Seattle Children’s Research Institute, Center for Global Infectious Disease Research, Benaroya Research Institute, and others.

Seattle is an international capital of technology and of creative arts. The area spawned innovation decades ago in aerospace, and now leads in innovation in biotechnology, computer science, and medicine. Professional life is set in a vibrant cultural scene and amongst the most spectacular of natural unspoiled surroundings of mountain and sea.

Our program, and our city and region, offer scientific intensity, training in clinical care, and quality of life that will enable you to unleash your potential to become a future leader in science and medicine. We look forward to your application.
